The ram photos are of HSK0907 – “New Perspective”. “New Perspective” is a genotyped RR ram. He is a product of Hidden Springs Katahdins. At 17 ˝ months old (as pictured), his weight is 274 pounds. He has good hooves and strong pasterns. He exhibits qualities such as being heavy-boned, well muscled, excellent length, good height, parasite resistance and a nice hair coat. We are using “New Perspective” on some of our top-quality mature ewes. We hope to have lambs available for purchase in late Spring/early Summer 2011.
To photo to the left features our ewe lamb flock for 2009. These ewe lambs were selected to enter our breeding program. These ewe lambs came from our hard-working, mature ewe flock which is pictured below.
We maintain a flock of 30 to 40 head of quality Katahdin sheep. We do rotational grazing while only supplementing grain and hay as we feel necessary. We will be lambing out in February and March so that our ram and ewe lambs are ready for the Fall breeding season.

Hidden Springs Katahdins has been in operation since 2002. We were involved in the meat goat industry for 10 years prior to discovering the Katahdin breed. Since the purchase of our first sheep, we've strived to develop a top-notch, quality Katahdin.
Our goal here at Hidden Springs is to raise an outstanding flock of Katahdins...by culling (sending sheep that do not meet our criteria to the slaughter market) and retaining only those sheep that meet our expectations of what a quality Katahdin should be. We have a very strict set of criteria that each sheep must meet (such as parasite resistance, good hooves, sound udders, ease in lambing, ability to raise twins/triplets in the field). We feel these criteria are essential in raising a quality animal. If you would like more information on our criteria, practices, etc., please feel free to contact us.

Our main priority as shepherds is to give the best care possible to our sheep. We believe a healthy sheep is a productive sheep. We take pride in maintaining a healthy flock. We focus on good management practices. We are involved in the NSIP and will have EPDs available for our flock upon request. We are also involved in the mandatory Scrapie Eradication Program. We are members of the Katahdin Hair Sheep International, South Central Katahdin Hair Sheep Association and the Scott County Hair Sheep Association – Gate City, VA.
We have invested a lot of time, money and energy in developing our Katahdin flock. We do this in order to build a top-of-the-line genetic base. We have done the homework so we can bring to you, our customer, a quality Katahdin breeding stock. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to those who have been instrumental in helping us develop our flock as well as all of the people who have purchased from us – you have made 2009 a very productive season.
