Breeder Pages

Welcome to the KHSI Breeder Pages!  Our first pages are up and running.  At this time, with just a few pages, it is easiest to select pages to view using “Breeder Listing by Country/State/Province”.  In the future, with more pages available, using the search capabilities will be more helpful.

NOTE:  “Breeder Page Administration” is for those individuals that are working on their own Breeder Page and who have bought a Page.

Breeder Pages – Breeder Pages are available to paid and current members of Katahdin Hair Sheep International for $50 per year.  Contact Jim Morgan at KHSI Operations, khsint@earthlink.net, 479-444-8441, PO Box 778, Fayetteville, AR  72702.  The Breeder Pages are an easy way for KHSI members to put their Sheep Flock on the Web with Pictures, Texts and Sheep For Sale.  These pages are quickly modified and will allow you to change your pictures and text and sale listings on a weekly basis.

What do I need to be able to create a Breeder Page?  Briefly, you will need 1-4 digitized photos of the correct size (50 kb or less) and text to put in 1-3 text boxes to inform viewers about your farm/ranch, your Katahdins and your animals for sale.  Once you have the pictures and are logged on – you can make your own site in about 15-30 minutes (depending to some extent on speed of connection, typing speed and familiarity with computers).  But, working on the text and resizing your digitized pictures will probably take the average Katahdin Breeder some time.  A major goal of the Breeder Pages site is to make mini-web pages available for Katahdin Breeders with fewer internet/world wide web skills.

Each Breeder Page is a template that has space for up to 4 pictures and 3 text boxes.  You can use any or all of these boxes.  a) 1-4 digitized pictures under 50 kb in size (size is limited to speed up the viewing, but not to decrease quality of picture on the screen), b) Text to fill three text boxes, c) User name & password provided by Jim Morgan, d) allow Jim Morgan time to activate your account.  Note - there are more detailed instructions for sizing the digitized pictures, for obtaining free software to resize pictures at the site.  You may wish to have a friend or family member or pay a professional with Adobe Photoshop or one of the many other digital picture editing programs to do this.  At this time, you may want to put captions or animal ID#s on the pictures as we are still working on adding a caption box for each picture.  Once you have the pictures, the majority of our beta-testers were able to upload and modify their page easily.

The major goals of this part of the Katahdin Hair Sheep International (KHSI) Website are to:

a) make mini-web pages available for Katahdin Breeders with fewer internet/world wide web skills

b) host pages that load quickly and allow individuals looking for information on Katahdins to view pictures quickly (many websites have components that take minutes to load and are not friendly to the dial-up connections that many rural internet users have access to)

c) increase promotion of the Katahdin Breed by providing web access to more Katahdin operations and flocks
